Mark has worked at Church Court as a Dental Surgeon since 1999. He bought the practice and took over as Principal Dentist when the previous owner retired in Autumn 2009. Mark has over 25 years’ experience in preventive, restorative and cosmetic treatment – looking after the long-term care of people of all ages.
Mark coordinates the organisation of individual patient care across the whole team, both within Church Court and in partnership with specialists and consultants across Scotland and Northern England. He is committed to preventive practice and to the continuing professional development of his whole team. His aim is to bring the best possible, well considered and affordable care to people here in Dumfries.
Mark is committed to continuing professional dental education and has continuously developed his own practice since qualifying in Edinburgh in 1987 (when he won the final year prize for orthodontics). He is interested in the full breadth of patient care and treatment.
In December 2012 Mark and his practice were awarded Denplan Excel Accreditation, this involved Mark voluntarily opening up his own clinical work and the whole Practice’s records to independent review. The Denplan Excel Accreditation Programme is the only independently validated clinical governance peer assessment programme available.
In November 2013 Mark and his team were the first ever to be awarded the prestigious Dental Protection/schülke Dental Practice of the Year Award. This national award recognises the hard work that goes into making a great practice – assessed on Ethics, Professionalism, Record keeping, Cross infection control, Team working, Consent, Communication and Health and safety.
In January 2016 Mark took on the Clinical Lead Role in the Scottish Patient Safety Programme for Dentistry in Dumfries & Galloway.
Mark continues to develop his own practice and the team that delivers care to his patients. In March 2014 the D&G Chamber of Commerce recognised Church Court’s Excellence in Customer Care in the 2014 Business Awards and nominated the practice for the Business Honours in Edinburgh in September 2014 where the practice was a finalist in the Growing Talent Category. He encourages all team members to develop their clinical and wider skills and learning in order to provide a truly holistic approach to care and to strengthen the team as a whole.
Before moving to Dumfries Mark worked at practices in Doncaster, Stockton-on-Tees, and County Durham.Close

Julie was announced as one of only five therapists shortlisted for Best Dental Therapist (under 30) in the Dental Hygiene & Therapy Awards 2015, and was the only one to be ‘Highly Commended’ within the category at the ceremony in in London on 6th February 2015.
