Oral Health Assessment & Regular Check-ups
This is the most important part of your care. Oral Health Assessment and regular check-ups give us a chance to meet you and find out about your needs and to monitor any changes or existing or potential problems. We also give you an oral health score which helps you to see improvements and changes over time.
The purpose is to fully assess your oral health, develop a care plan and to help you maintain excellent oral health. We are interested in you whatever your age, from early childhood through adolescence to adulthood and old age, our aim is to help you make decisions to experience as few dental problems and the best smile possible throughout your lifetime.
The extensive full oral health assessment involves a thorough examination of your teeth and gums (periodontal condition) and full examination of all visible oral and facial tissues and structures. In addition your dentist may arrange for you to have x-rays or baseline photographs taken. It will also include a discussion with you about any treatments, therapies or follow-up which may be recommended.
We will ask you about your medical history during appointments and to complete regular update forms. It’s important to let us know of any changes in your general health and medications which could affect management of your treatment.
We will also make individual recommendations for when you need to re-attend for recall examination or oral health review.
Your dentist will discuss all the options with you and may provide written treatment plans and cost options which you can take away to consider. An Oral Health Assessment or regular check up is always carried out by a dentist who will oversee your care. Dental Therapists and Hygienists work under prescription from your dentist who also coordinates any referrals to registered specialists.
We encourage you to let us know anything that you feel is relevant to your healthcare and to ask questions if you are at all unsure at any stage.
